Erythritol combined with non-nutritive sucralose increases feeding by Drosophila suzukii, quickens mortality and reduces oviposition

چکیده
Drosophila suzukii, spotted-wing drosophila (SWD), is a fly pest of small fruits and cherries often managed by chemical insecticides, finding convenient, human-safe alternative challenge. Erythritol, non-caloric sugar, safe for humans toxic to D. suzukii causing an osmotic imbalance. Combining erythritol with sucrose as phagostimulant can enhance mortality. However, sticky when applied on plants provides flies nutritional carbohydrate if non-lethal dose ingested. Therefore, our objectives were find alternative, sugar that also has phagostimulative properties, where the formulation will mortality, reduce daily oviposition rates before females die. Through capillary no-choice choice experiments, fed 0.1 M sucralose (Sul) readily, consumed more 1.5 erythritol: (E:Sul) than alone. In eleven different mortality assays, E:Sul induced did 0.5 (E:S) formulation, while was successful E:S could drink water offset loss. Sucralose (0.1 M) itself had modest insecticidal but combined it increased effect. Both formulations reduced directly in cotton wick or blueberry fruit. The latter suggests sugary coating deterrent Given potential E:Sul, additional studies effect osmolar regulation, metabolism, field efficacy trials are underway provide growers efficacious tool.

Oviposition activity of Drosophila suzukii as mediated by ambient and fruit temperature
The invasive pest Drosophila suzukii was introduced to southern Europe in 2008 and spread throughout Central Europe in the following years. Precise reliable data on the temperature-dependent behavior of D. suzukii are scarce but will help forecasting and cultivation techniques. Depending on physico-chemical properties, surface temperature of objects may differ from ambient temperatures, determi...

Initially greeted with deep skepticism, if not outright disbelief, this assemblage — named Afrotheria — and its shared evolutionary history is now widely accepted, and an overwhelming amount of genomic data as well as numerous other lines of supportive evidence have since been adduced. متن کاملFeeding-induced rearrangement of green leaf volatiles reduces moth oviposition
The ability to decrypt volatile plant signals is essential if herbivorous insects are to optimize their choice of host plants for their offspring. Green leaf volatiles (GLVs) constitute a widespread group of defensive plant volatiles that convey a herbivory-specific message via their isomeric composition: feeding of the tobacco hornworm Manduca sexta converts (Z)-3- to (E)-2-GLVs thereby attrac...
متن کاملTrapping of Drosophila suzukii
The spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii) is a newly introduced pest of soft fruits, stone fruits and grapes in Europe. Various trap types are used for monitoring and mass trapping of this pest. In Switzerland, “Gasser-Becherfalle” with a white lid and a liquid wine-vinegar based attractant is the most widely used trap type for both purposes. In order to improve efficiency of monitoring ...

BACKGROUND The development of oral motor control depends partially on motor and sensory experiences. AIM To analyze the relationship between the duration of breastfeeding, artificial feeding and sucking habits, and of these parameters with the orofacial motor performance. METHOD Participants of this study were one hundred and seventy-six children aged 6 to 12 years. All subjects were submit...
